2016 Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive


Feeding the hungry is challenging. But this weekend, it’s as easy as putting a letter in your mailbox.

Stamp Out Hunger Family Circus PromoOn Saturday, May 14th, letter carriers will collect non-perishable food donations. All you need to do is leave a sturdy bag of non-perishable food for pick-up.

Collection bins will also be available at Food Lion stores across the Roanoke Valley.

Last year, letter carriers in Southwest Virginia collected 322,229 pounds of food along their postal routes. Thanks to you, this made the Feeding America Southwest Virginia service area #1 in state for food collected – Let’s do it again!

Acceptable food donations include: Due to food safety regulations, the food drive cannot accept:
  •  Canned soups
  •  Canned vegetables and fruit
  •  Canned meats and fish
  •  Canned pasta meals (example: Chef-Boyardee)
  •  Boxed cereals
  •  Boxed pasta
  •  Boxed or bagged rice or beans
  •  Shelf stable, non-refrigerated juice (example: Ocean Spray or Juicy Juice in plastic bottles)
  •  Baby Food/Infant Formula
  •  Containers without labels
  •  Alcohol/Tobacco Products
  •  Medicines/Over the Counter Drugs
  •  Homemade/Home Canned Goods
  •  Prefer NOT to accept Glass Containers/Jars
  •  Temperature sensitive product, such as refrigerated/frozen meats and produce
